{"id":130,"date":"2019-12-24T06:07:41","date_gmt":"2019-12-24T06:07:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stagsoftware.com\/hbtcentral\/?p=130"},"modified":"2023-07-14T05:39:06","modified_gmt":"2023-07-14T00:09:06","slug":"creating-a-good-baseline","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stagsoftware.com\/hbtcentral\/creating-a-good-baseline\/","title":{"rendered":"Creating a good baseline"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/hbtcentral.org\/content\/?p=45\">What is a baseline<\/a>\u201c, we saw that it is&nbsp;a cross-product of what-to-test and test-for-what.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>Baseline= what-to-test X test-for-what<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Our objective in creating a baseline is to provide a \u2018crisp clarity of start point for evaluation\u2019. &nbsp;So what is&nbsp;<em>crisp clarity<\/em>&nbsp;and therefore a good baseline?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"327\" height=\"173\" src=\"https:\/\/stagsoftware.com\/hbtcentral\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/09\/baseline.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-365\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stagsoftware.com\/hbtcentral\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/09\/baseline.png 327w, https:\/\/stagsoftware.com\/hbtcentral\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/09\/baseline-300x159.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 327px) 100vw, 327px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The shaded portion in the picture alongside is what we termed&nbsp;as the Baseline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A clear articulation of what the&nbsp;<em>yellow portion<\/em>&nbsp;is what the&nbsp;<em>good baseline&nbsp;<\/em>, an articulation of the testable cleanliness criteria. And this is termed Acceptance Criteria in the Agile context. Testable implies being precise\/objective ensuring no ambiguity in the expectations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/hbtcentral.org\/content\/?p=178\">Needs and Expectations<\/a>, Needs are\u00a0\u2018What-to-test\u2019 (the EUTs) whilst Expectations are \u2018Test-for-what\u2019. Hence a clear statement of the criteria for each of the expectations for each EUT of the SUT is what the\u00a0<em>good baseline\u00a0<\/em>. During the construction of the \u2018Baseline\u2019, it is possible that some of \u2018yellow-portions\u2019 \u00a0are unclear. What HyBIST enables you is to ensure that you identify the appropriate cleanliness criteria (aka Expectations) and ask questions to clarify these to make them testable.
