How to identify an EUT?

As outlined in ‘What is an EUT‘, an EUT can be one of the following:

  1. End-to-end flow
  2. Business requirement/Use-case
  3. Feature
  4. Structural component

To identify as what these are,  ‘start from the outside’  i.e from the view of end-user. Firstly identify as to who the various types of end user may be. Understanding the market segment/customers that this system is expected to address will enable us to list down the various types of potential end users.

Having identified these end users (or Actors) it is important to get into their shoes to understand as to what they want to accomplish and thereby identify the (1)End-to-end flows. This will enable us to identify the (2)Requirement/Use-case.

Then later as we specify the system in detail, identify the various services the system offers and these result in (3)Features. As we commence implementation of the same the various building blocks to implement these features become the (4)Structural component.

Start with who (Types of end user(s)) and then go on to list what they want to do (1 &2). This will enable us think from an end user perspective rather than identify 3&4 and perform clinical testing.
