Analyse SPEC for CLARITY
Given that user story is a crisp outlining of needs & expectations of end user(s), it is key to solidify the boundaries so that it is precise and complete to minimise assumptions and not miss out interesting usage patterns. Reconnaissance & Deep Dive of HyBIST enables analysis from different points-of-view to uncover gaps, contradictions and issues to sharpen clarity.
What does this mean?
1. Prevent/pre-empt issues, enable shift-left.
2.Significantly lower rework, ensure engineering capacity is not wasted.
Analyse TEST CASES for EFFICACY
Test cases are really probes that should ideally ‘guarantee’ quality i.e. logically justify test coverage. Categorising test cases by HyBIST Quality Levels, by objective (conformance or robustness) and assessing clarity of objective helps assess test coverage logically.
What does this mean?
1. Is it user centric? i.e test in-the-large in addition to test in-the-small? Test features to flow and correct usage to potential abuse.
2. Is it focussed on the right issues? Does it have the power to uncover them?
Analyse DEFECTS for EFFECTIVENESS
Jumping straight into Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of defects is not always effective! A smarter approach is to first understand the types of defects uncovered. This method is powerful, as it enables a quick assessment of defect leakage— from Development to QA and from QA to the Customer. Categorising defects into HyBIST quality levels effectively achieves this.
What does this mean?
1. Are we leaking defects from earlier stage?
2. Are test cases focussed on uncovering right defects?
This acts like a mirror that reflects the quality of test practice and enables transformation.
